Department of Music

The love for music and the cultivation and development of same in the individual through perceptive listening creative performance and intellectual discourse accompanied by imagination is the fundamental mission philosophy upon which the baccalaureate ------ music programme of the Mountain Top University is based. This philosophy ----- accordance with the motto of the University to empower to excel, the programme seeks to develop the inherent musical talents in the individual so that he/she can take its rightful place in the world of music as well as in the Nigerian artistic and creative industries, entertainment in communicate the teaching profession and sacred religious institution.

  1. UTME
    1. O’ Level subjects
    2. Candidates must have at least five (5) credits at the SSCE (or its equivalents) in English Language and any other four subjects chosen from Social Sciences, Arts and Natural Sciences at not more than two sittings. MTU does not insist on credit pass in music at SSCE. If a candidate earns a Grade 5 Certificate of the Associated Board of Royal School of Music ABRSM, Trinity College of Music TCM, Musical Society of Nigeria MUSON, or Mountain Top International Music School MIMS, it will be taken as equivalent of credit pass in SSCE Music.

    3. UTME Subjects
      English Language, and any other two subjects

  3. Direct entry candidates with these Certificates; OND, NCE., or any other equivalent Diploma Certificate in Music are eligible to apply for admission into 200 level of the Music Programme. Candidates with Grade 6 Theory Certificate of any of the following bodies may also be considered. Mountain Top Music School MIMS, Associated Board of Royal School of Music ABRSM, Trinity College of Music TCM, Musical Society of Nigeria MUSON. He or she must also possess at least Grade 4 practical examination certificate of any of the aforementioned institutions. Candidates may be required to attend pre-admission audition. However, candidate is expected to have satisfied the basic entry requirements of ‘O’ level credits in 5 subjects including English language.
