Centre of Excellence in Music

The Mountain Top University Music Department is unarguably one of the finest Music departments in the African Continent. Popularly called the 'Organ House', it is a renowned center of Music excellence for teaching and research in all aspects of music and a superb environment for study.

We run a robust undergraduate programme with penchant for traditional skills in musicology, Music Education, African Music, Ethnomusicology, Composition, Opera Studies, Film and Popular Music, Music Theory and Analysis, Psychology of Music and Performance Studies. The department exposes the students to a wide range of musical activities with the intent of broadening their musical quest. Classes are conducted in a serene environment with highly qualified faculty members. Lectures are conducted in an interactive setting with the individual in mind.

The department offers a unique opportunity for combined instruction and hands-on practical experience, all within the university campus. Our resources include a storehouse of Western and African Musical instruments, a high-spec electronic music studio, a compact up to date e- library and specialised resources for the study of performance.

The activities of the department are distributed in the various sections of the 'Organ House' and the Main Auditorium. Solo performances are presented at the Recital Hall situated at the ground floor of the Organ House while large performances are done at the Mountain Top Main Auditorium. Apart from the aforementioned programmes, we also organise a wide variety of concerts, masterclasses, workshops, public lectures and conferences.
