The mission of the Department of Economics is to produce graduates of economics that are comparable to those of the highest ranking universities in the world, graduates that are employable in first class companies and those that are potentially first class entrepreneurs and employers of labour.
The major objectives of the degree programme in Economics are:
- to equip the students with adequate academic knowledge in Economics which will enable them to compare well with their counterparts in the leading Nigerian Universities and in those of the developed countries.
- to provide the students with analytical skills and techniques for analyzing and solving the Nigerian economic and business problems.
- to activate and stimulate the latent entrepreneurial talents in the students and to equip them with the necessary analytical tools and skills that will transform them to successful entrepreneurs, capable of setting up their own businesses.
- and above all, to infuse in them moral uprightness, self-respect and patriotism. The College environment and the academic programmes are structured to inculcate dedication to duty, consideration for others, moral uprightness and self-reliance. They are empowered to excel.
The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics to form the core subjects with credit in any other two relevant science subjects, at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent. In addition, an acceptable pass in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with relevant subject combination is required for Admission into 100 Level.
