Major Exhibition at MTU Revolutionalizes Painting with an Unparalleled Collection of Early and Recent Fabric Collage Works

A s part of her programme of events lined   up for the 2021 (2nd & 3rd combined)   Convocation Ceremony, Mountain Top   University (MTU) held a unique Post-Doctoral Art   Exhibition featuring a Research Fellow of the University, Dr. Peacemaker Alexander Efeoghene.  

  The exhibition titled: Fabricating Painting: Conceptualization of Fabric Collage Technique on   Grounds featured 33 artworks by Dr. Efeoghene,   some of which he had used for his MFA and PhD   theses. The art works were on display from 21st   December, 2021 to 10th January, 2022, at the College of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences (CHMS) in the University.  The art exhibition was supported by Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, General Overseer, Mountain of   Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Mountain of   Fire and Miracles Ministries Worldwide (MFM),   Mountain Top University (MTU), Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and General Studies   (CEDGS), Mountain Top University, Noruwaedokpolo, Hampton Court, UK, and Arts and Projects   (PTY) LTD.  The exhibition explored visual paintings produced   in fabric collage technique, through rigorous studio   research activities into a newer method to expressself in an unconventional approach, different from   the traditional use of paint and brush media on surfaces.  

The artworks on display expressed landscape sceneries, figures, still and natural object concepts that   address current human and societal lifestyle and   issues, such as commerce, music and entertainment, celebration, local events, insecurity and so   on.  Similarly, the exhibition equally expressed visual   concepts on varied grounds such as wood-board,   glass, ceramic tile, lithographic plate, mesh, paper   card, straw card, bamboo and glass bottle.  Ribbon cutting Ceremony and touring of the   exhibition centre  The Ribbon cutting and official opening of the Exhibition Hall was done amongst much fanfare with the   Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Prof. O. J. Akinyomi   on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elijah A.   Ayolabi, leading the way with members of staff, students, guests and distinguished members of the press   to the entrance door.

The ribbon was cut amidst prayers and to rounds of applause.  A tour of the exhibition hall was led by the Artist, Dr.   Peacemaker Efeoghene, as he gave insights into his   artworks. Titles of some of the artworks featured include: Through the Rain, Hausa Trumpeter, Kaa Kaki   Player, Flower Vase, Through the Sahara 1 & 2, Durbar Race, Agama Lizard, Gouge Player, Urhobo Chieftain, Sun Flower, Arabian Guard, Home Keeper, Amina Busari in Abraka, Abraka Inland Maiden, Palmwine vendor, Urhobo Dance Rhythm, Urhobo Couple,   Act of Gratitude and African-American Tune.   In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC),   Prof. O. J. Akinyomi, on behalf of the ViceChancellor, Prof. Elijah A. Ayolabi, noted that the exhibition is “an eye-opener to those not in the Art Industry, as it has displayed what individuals can accomplish.” According to him, “Mountain Top University   (MTU) is poised to project the department of Fine &   Applied Arts”.

He also disclosed that the General   Overseer, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries   (MFM), Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, is equally   committed to the smooth running of every department   of the University.  It is worthy of mention that the wife of the General   Overseer of MFM and the Chancellor of the University, Pastor Mrs Folashade Olukoya is a renowned Artist   and Designer. She was conferred with an Honourary   Doctor of Letters (D. Litt.) Honoris Causa at the convocation ceremony for her oustanding role in the creative world and in women and youth empowerment.
